how to be topper? or how can be class topper? what topper do?

I'm going to share a few tips and methods on how I study myself. Hope you find them useful too. They do work for me.

College: 9.9 cgpa as of now.

12th grade: 95.2%

10th grade : 10 cgpa

  • Make a timetable. Whether it's a long term timetable or a short one, it is useful. For JEE I used to have a timetable for every month, what I'd be studying each day. It really helps to keep track of time. Otherwise you keep thinking “ abhi toh time hai “ (I have plenty of time right now) but in the end you realise that time flies faster than you think.

Even if you have less time to study, try to make an hour wise time table for the day. Something like-

  • Keep your phone away. It can be really distracting. At least for me it is. If it's in front of me I'm sure I'll keep checking it every ten minutes even if I have the entire syllabus left.

What I like to do when I want to concentrate better is hide my phone XD I just put it under a pillow or book. It really does work. Out of sight, out of mind.

  • Highlight keywords only. Something like this-

and not like this -

I myself find it way easier to remember things by just highlighting and focusing on the keywords. In the second picture where I've highlighted almost everything, it all gets jumbled up and a little harder to remember as the brain tries to focus on all the highlighted part, most of which isn't important.

  • Write the syllabus down. I always have the syllabus written down in front of me while studying. Including ALL the subtopics. I keep ticking off topics as I cover them.

This helps me keep track of how much I've covered and how much is left. So my brain doesn't wander off worrying about the topics I have left.

  • See previous year papers. Whether it is an exam like JEE or some school exam.

For JEE, I solved almost all previous year questions for all topics, all subjects. And this is even more useful for school and college exams as many of the questions are repeated and you overall get an idea about what topics are important.

  • Keep memorizing as you go. For subjects like chemistry where you need to remember a lot. Don't think that I've noted this down once, I'll come back to it. Don't keep piling on stuff you need to do.
  • Revise. Revision is must. It will just freshen up everything you've studied in your brain.

For school and college exams, no matter how well you've studied, how you present your answers also matters a lot!

  • Never leave any answer blank. Even if you don't know the answer, write something. Anything. Write something related to it. Whatever you know.
  • Write steps and formulae. I know many teachers who do step marking and will give you some marks just for writing the correct formula even if your answer is wrong.
  • Wear a watch. It helps keep track of time during the exam. Don't waste too much time on one question.

This is all I could think of right now. Thanks for reading :)

All the best!
