Engineering in IT/CS is one option where you get admission in second year and other option is you can do BCA or BSc IT where you will get admission in first year but course is of three years. Choose wisely because you have to deal ,not the advisor. Think which will be comfortable for you and always remember college or university where you get good learning , practical knowledge as well as campus placement opportunities matters more than the degree you do in IT field.Since it will give you the theory and practical coding/programming knowledge both are important for your future not the name of degree. 

First of all ,you should give great priority to your core subject and programming languages ,since it is a time to learn and sharp your self in it. You can participate in inter college or intra college events to show your activeness and command in all your areas i.e academics and extra curricular both. After you exam, you get gap of approx 30 days (1 month) you can do internship/part time job related to your field to learn working environment , understand it and also get good impact on resume, and this experience help you to learn so many things like working nature ,how to behave , interest of area to make career.
